“Skin Botox:” What is the Korean Trend of Glass Skin?
South Korea has been at the forefront of skin care for the last decade. In fact, many would say that Koreans are obsessed with beautiful skin – leading to South Korea being dubbed the “Skin Capital of the World.” This has led to the development of many new anti-aging technologies and techniques coming out of that country. And many of these South Korean beauty treatments have rapidly gained popularity in the US.
One of the newest and most popular beauty and anti-aging treatments to come out of South Korea is “glass skin” – also known as “Skin Botox”. This in-office injectable treatment is so named because it helps women achieve perfect skin that is as smooth as glass.
In this article, the Botox experts at Chandler, AZ explain how this innovative new use for Botox is used in Asian countries to help patients achieve smooth, flawless skin.
Traditional Uses of Botox
Typically, Botox is injected into the patient’s muscles to essentially “paralyze” them. Botox blocks the nerve impulses from being sent to targeted muscles. By weakening the muscle contractions in the face, lines and wrinkles are relaxed. In 2002, Botox was approved for the treatment of “glabellar lines – those pesky vertical furrows (“elevens”) that develop between the eyebrows.
Today, Botox is also widely used for frown lines, crow’s feet, horizontal forehead lines, and even vertical lip lines above the upper lip. And not only does Botox relax deep creases, but it also helps prevent new lines from developing further.
Botox is also FDA approved for multiple medical uses, including the treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), chronic migraines, and urinary incontinence.
Skin Botox
While traditional Botox injections target the muscles in the face, Skin Botox only treats the outer layer of the skin – including the pores – to create an all-over smoothing effect. The goal is flawless skin that is as smooth as glass.
Skin Botox treats the outer layers of the face using multiple micro-injections of Botox. These “micro doses” of Botox are injected into what is referred to as the “edge” of the skin – just below the skin’s surface.
Traditional Botox usually only requires three to five relatively deep injections. But Skin Botox utilizes about 40 to 50 tiny Botox injections that are made superficially along the under-eye, forehead, and jawline.
Results of Glass Skin Botox
The “Glass Skin” procedure causes the patient’s pores to tighten, reducing their appearance significantly, leaving the skin appearing tighter and smoother. And, in addition to shrinking pores, Skin Botox also reduces the skin’s production of oil and sweat. This helps reduce or eliminate inflammation, redness, and breakouts from clogged pores.
The procedure is less effective than its traditional alternative in treating excessively deep wrinkles. For reducing pores and very fine facial lines, however, Skin Botox is remarkably effective. Skin Botox also helps eliminate embarrassing, excess forehead sweating.
Candidates for Botox Glass Skin
Botox Glass Skin is most popular among millennials in their 30s and Gen Z patients in their 20s. These are people who don’t have deep wrinkles and are not ready for a full Botox treatment – but who want to present smooth skin in selfies and on social media. Because Skin Botox doesn’t “freeze” the muscles, patients never look as though they have “had work done.” Skin Botox patients simply look fresher and healthier – with smooth, clear, glowing “glass skin” that is free from visible pores, excess oil and sweat, and blemishes.
It is, however, important to note that Botox has not yet been FDA approved for the Glass Skin procedure in the United States!
