low testosterone

Everyone Should Know Their Testosterone Numbers.
Here’s Why.

Could you be low in T? Your emotions can give you a clue.
Has Your Interest in Sex Declined?
Suddenly, your pre-adolescent hobbies — like carpentry and cars — seem a lot more interesting than having some “intimate time” with your partner….or even yourself. If your libido is low, your testosterone levels could be the culprit.

Are You Constantly Feeling Annoyed and Irritable?

Of course, the world is full of annoyances…and these days, the annoyances seem to have more merit than ever due to politics, news and tension.

A significant number of people are feeling extra stressed and anxious due to politics and the pandemic- 7 in 10 American adults feel stressed by either COVID-19 or the economy.

BUT, if you feel like you’re patience is near non-existent and you’re constantly annoyed more than you used to be, it could have something to do with LOW TESTOSTERONE.

Has your wife nicknamed you her “grumpy old man?” This common symptom that happens when aging can be exacerbated by dips in testosterone.

So, if you’re barking at the kids or blowing up at the grocery store worker ….you might want to consider blaming your low T.

Do you feel sad, depressed, or tired?

Low T affects more than you may realize, including your motivation to workout or, really do anything more than watch TV. If nothing feels worthwhile anymore, it could be because you don’t have enough T to fire up your enthusiasm. Testosterone also affects your body composition, so unbalanced hormones can make you lose muscle mass and gain fat, which in turn affects your metabolism.

Is it harder to the do things you used to love to do, like biking, hitting the gym hard or jogging?

A slow metabolism makes it harder to do physical activities, and that, in turn, affects your mood.

How can you break this vicious cycle? Rebalancing your testosterone levels may be the ticket.

Are You Experiencing Brain Fog? Trouble focusing?

Testosterone is important for brain health, too. If you feel like you’re walking around in a mental fog and have trouble concentrating, you may be deficient in T.

Low T … or something else?

Recently, we have heard about pellet therapy from a number of women in our community—some who have regained quality of life as a result of pellet therapy, some who heard about pellet therapy from their physicians, and others who are curious and beginning to be proactive with their midlife health. So, we sat down with the owner of SottoPelle Therapy so we can all learn more.

Tune into my conversation with CarolAnn Tutera—and be sure to stay on to the 18 minute mark, as CarolAnn talks about hormone changes in men too!

What is pellet therapy?

Pellet therapy is an innovative way of delivering hormone therapy. By inserting pellets (about the size of a grain of rice) under the skin, this precision delivery method transports a customized dose of hormones through the blood stream, around the clock.

Why might a woman choose pellet therapy?

  • Pellet therapy has been around for more than 70 years
  • It’s a viable way for women to avoid the hormone roller coaster
  • Delivering hormone therapy via pellets ensures that the prescribed dose is absorbed into a woman’s blood stream; the most reliable delivery method available as pills, patches and creams can be deemed inconvenient and inconsistent. With pellet therapy, there’s nothing to remember. Each treatment is tailored to suit the individual needs of the woman rather than a one-size-fits all or guesswork approach. It contains low-does estradiol and testosterone that release slowly for three to six months and includes regular monitoring and adjustments when your body needs it.
  • Because the treatment is customized to each individual, doctors who administer pellet therapy are not merely treating symptoms but they treat the whole person. In addition, women will often choose pellet therapy because they are interested in quality of life NOW, and keen to invest in their longevity and vitality down the road—by protecting their cognitive health, preventing osteoporosis—as well as simply replenishing what their bodies need.

What options are available for men?

Men are frequently pleased when their partners/wives choose pellet therapy as they recognize how effectively it restores her quality of life. But men are also advocates of pellet therapy for their own health too—for similar reasons as women. You see, as a rule, men don’t experience the drastic roller coaster of hormone fluctuation that women do (although some do!), they do have experiences in midlife such as fatigue, brain fog, low libido and anxiety and depression that can be addressed with personalized hormone therapy.

Are your hormones holding you back?

5 Myths About Hormone Replacement Therapy

Whether you’re a man or a woman, talking with your significant other about their health and hormones with a physician is almost always fodder for an argument. The good news is, “It Doesn’t Have To Be That Way®” if the topic is approached with love, compassion, support and understanding. There are ways you can minimize the chance of upsetting the other person’s feelings if you do a little homework first.

If you’re a man, understand that your wife’s mood swings aren’t always caused by a bad day at work or the stress of dealing with the children or the never-ending list of chores at home. Chances are these everyday stressors can be amplified as a result of hormonal imbalance, premenopausal or menopausal. When a women is in menopause her body significantly decreases its production of estrogen and testosterone. In addition to mood swings, your wife may be experiencing fatigue or loss of libido. Other symptoms can include night sweats, hot flashes, unexplained weight gain and irritability. She may not realize she is suffering from hormonal imbalance and may have a hard time asking for help even if she suspects she might be “going through the change.”

Don’t let her be a stoic and suffer in silence. When you feel an openness in her presence, start by telling her she is greatly loved and valued. That you are bringing up a possibly sensitive topic only out of concern for her health. Reassure her that though her symptoms might have affected your relationship, that you are committed in helping her find answers so she can start feeling better, both physically and emotionally. Offer to read the same material with her, if possible, attend her doctor’s appointments with her, let her know you want to understand her condition, but most importantly, show her your support is consistent and constant.

If you are a woman wanting to talk to your male partner about “the change” you suspect is taking place in him, this topic is equally sensitive. We often hear of stories of men going through “mid-life crisis” when they buy the new sports car, start looking at much younger women and often chase things which help them feel more youthful. Some experts believe this phenomenon may actually be caused by a man trying to over-compensate the very qualities the he believes is slipping away from him: his sex appeal and masculinity. When a man reaches their late 30’s to mid-40s, the male body starts to significantly produce less testosterone which causes the man to have decreased libido and energy, loss of mental focus, decreased muscle mass, increased weight gain and an overall compromise in their sense of well-being. For a man, these symptoms also often cause depression. This “change” is often called “male menopause” or now known as “Andropause.”

When a woman addresses a man’s possible hormonal imbalance, the same concepts in positive communication applies regardless of whom is addressing whom. The woman must reassure the man that he is valued and loved and that this sensitive topic is being brought up out of concern for their health and well-being. Let your partner know that you don’t see him less of a man because his body is going through changes that are not in his control. Reassure him that the changes he is going through are common among men and the clinical term is called “andropause.” Read about the topic together and talk about “next steps” in getting him the medical help he needs.

The bottom line is neither the man nor the woman needs to suffer and feel they have debilitating bodies. Your relationship does not have to suffer because of the distance or walls often built between partners due to misunderstandings as a result of hormonal imbalance and mood swings that often follow. Intimacy in the relationship is possible, again. As well as the renewed sense of hope in a healthy, long future together not hindered by any physical, emotional or mental barricades often produced by hormonal imbalance. Your passion for life and each other will only grow with each passing year. But it all starts with today.
